Creating a new global economic architecture: EAEU and ASEAN / Valovaya, T   Journal Article
Valovaya, T Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract FASTER REGIONAL ECONOMIC INTEGRATION is a characteristic feature of today's global economy. The successful creation of the European Union in the early 1990s encouraged both the development of already existing groupings and the emergence of new integration arrangements in different parts of the world: from Latin America and the Middle East to Southeast Asia. This trend accelerated significantly during the global economic crisis that began in 2008, when it became clear that regional integration provides additional opportunities for overcoming the crisis phenomena in the economy.

Summary/Abstract RESTORING THE DEEDS of historical personalities on the basis of a vast body of archival materials is like rebuilding churches and monasteries ruined by alien ideas and base passions. The outlines of the impressive building that fell victim to the wickedness of those who planted base feelings and stirred up base passions in our people are gradually coming through. Blinded by false ideals people revenged their hopeless misery on architectural masterpieces built to inspire.

EAEU amid Global Uncertainty / Slutsky, Leonid E. ; Khudorenko, Elena А.   Journal Article
Leonid E. Slutsky, Elena А. Khudorenko Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract The article analyzes the development of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) before, during and after the COVID-19 pandemic through the lens of the so-called integration dilemma, when one state perceives its neighbors’ integration into an economic alliance as a threat to its own security or prosperity. The authors consider the processes of interstate and supranational adaptation, as well as the adaptation of the basic model of integration to the existing practices of interaction as part of the project to ensure four freedoms. The institutional inertia characteristic of the EAEU and the manifest desire primarily to prevent development risks are caused by the “hybrid nature” of the integration association, in which interstate ties and the interests of states often outweigh supranational ones. At the same time, integration cooperation made it possible for the member states to somewhat harmonize and coordinate their joint response to the pandemic. Sweeping anti-Russian sanctions have created new, unprecedented risks for integration cooperation, but at the same time have opened up certain opportunities to overcome their consequences.

Moldova's East-West dilemma / Malyshev, D   Journal Article
Malyshev, D Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract IN RECENT YEARS, the territory of the former Soviet Union has been the site of escalating East-West rivalry. On one side there are Euro-Atlantic bodies - the European Union and NATO. On the other there are the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), organizations active on former Soviet territory. This rivalry was made more intense by the crisis of 2013 and 2014 in Ukraine and the reunification of Crimea with Russia. The future nature of international relations in ex-Soviet territory and those in Europe as a whole largely depends on whether former Soviet republics will prioritize relations with the EU or activities in the EAEU format. For Moldova, this is a vital choice to make for historical (and geographical) reasons.

Bordachev, Timofei Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract Central Eurasia is embarking on a major transformation to change its economic and political system. The growing rapport between Russia and China, progressing Eurasian integration, and Beijing's reciprocal trade and investment initiatives have added new dynamics to this process. The implementation of the joint statement of the presidents of Russia and China on the integration of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the Silk Road Economic Belt (SREB) projects helps not only identify areas of cooperation within the EAEU and with China, but also assess related challenges.

Russia and the CIS in 2019: relying on the Chinese way / Swanstrom, Niklas   Journal Article
Swanstrom, Niklas Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract I examine the relationship between Russia and the other members of the Commonwealth of Independent States, including how Moscow’s responses to changing geopolitical dynamics framed these relations in 2019. In particular, I consider the changes in preparation for Russia to assume the rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, whose membership overlaps partially with the CIS and which has become a key instrument for engaging with China in the region. For Russia, the organizational structures of both the SCO and the CIS are key instruments to maintain influence within the former Soviet Space, although how Moscow does this varies greatly, not least due to sensitivities about China.

Sinophobia in the Post-Soviet space: a reaction to expansion or a challenge to integration? / Kulintsev, Yuri V (et.al)   Journal Article
Kulintsev, Yuri V (et.al) Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract A team of authors representing various countries of the Eurasian Economic Union analyzed anti-Chinese protests that took place in the 2010s in Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan—EAEU countries that are China’s partners in implementing the Belt and Road Initiative. Based on empirical data concerning anti-Chinese protests, the paper examines the reaction of the authorities, public and expert discussion on the causes and further development of the situation, and offers some recommendations to the authorities of the countries in question on how to build constructive cooperation with China. An analysis of the causes and mechanisms of anti-Chinese protests in various countries shows that, despite some specific features, these countries face similar problems. The current situation can only partly be explained by the natural reaction of society to the continuing economic expansion of China. The basic reason for the protests was the lack of public trust in statements made by the authorities and the failure of existing government-society feedback mechanisms. As a result, society did not understand and rejected certain cooperation projects with China even though they were beneficial for the socioeconomic development of the countries and regions being considered.
