Critical assessment of alleged evidence of western submarine intrusions in Swedish territorial waters / Lillbacka, Ralf   Article
Lillbacka, Ralf Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract The submarine intrusions in Swedish territorial waters in the 1980s have received extensive attention. According to one theory, after the incident in 1981 when a Soviet submarine ran aground close to a Swedish naval base, Western submarines conducted subsequent intrusions as a psychological operation to affect Swedish foreign policy. In support of such claims, submarine observations and interviews with high-ranking Western officials have been put forth. However, the proposed evidence presented in Ola Tunander's article ‘Subs and PSYOPs’ in Intelligence and National Security can either be refuted or is inconclusive.

Critical Assessment of the Asia Rebalance / Katagiri, Nori   Journal Article
Katagiri, Nori Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract While the Obama administration’s Asia rebalance strategy received some praise from scholars and practitioners, it generated three problems that caused the USA to overlook many opportunities and neglect vital concerns. First, the strategy left Asia less stable by undermining US relations with China and smaller states in Southeast Asia. Secondly, it weakened America’s influence outside Asia by committing fewer resources. Finally, the rebalance was executed out of a relatively small cadre of government officials, allowing primarily civilian agencies to dictate Asia policy and excluding key branches of government. Furthermore, although the strategy competed with the strategies of restraint and offshore balancing, it never had the solid support of any international relations theories, leaving few scholars to directly associate it with a theory. Ultimately, the rebalance’s multiple logics prevented it from achieving intellectual hegemony in the American foreign policy discourse, and its substantive flaws and theoretical inconsistencies made difficult its acceptance as an enduring strategy in the Asia-Pacific region.

Russia, Syria and hybrid warfare: a critical assessment / Beccaro, Andrea   Journal Article
Beccaro, Andrea Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract The paper aims to underline the Russian’s new role in the Mediterranean region and it is divided into three sections. First, it takes into account the notion of hybrid warfare as it, according to NATO and westerner scholars, represents the new military strategy that Moscow devises to achieve its goals. Consequently, the paper studies the current use of the term “hybrid warfare” and then, using a more historical standpoint, it will show how this concept is neither new nor useful to understand current Russian politics toward the Mediterranean region. As a consequence, the paper’s second section elaborates on the notion of gray zone warfare that seems to be more appropriate to describe both Russian military operations and its tools.

Swati Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract The Indo-French Strategic Partnership has been instrumental in bringing a remarkable turnaround in bilateral relations between New Delhi and Paris. What was hitherto a low-key relationship during the Cold War years, post-1998, India and France have set the momentum to build multidimensional ties of strategic nature and substance. In core areas like defence and security, the partnership has transformed from a clientele relationship to joint collaboration in areas like defence manufacturing, exchange of military doctrines and developing a common understanding on international security issues.
