Gas pipeline war on: on several geopolitical consequences of the Tanap and Turkish stream projects
/ Gandzhumian, Valeria
GANDZHUMIAN, Valeria
Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract
The current stage in international relations is characterized by rapid intensification of competition in the energy sphere. The Russian-Ukrainian gas crisis of 2008-2009, as well as the conflict around Ukraine at the current stage are pushing energy supply security, one of the most important concepts in scientific literature, into the foreground. The primary importance of this concept in the increasingly unstable and rapidly changing global economy is promoting the creation of new geopolitical and geo-economic advantages for the transit countries. Moreover, uninterrupted production and safe transportation of oil and natural gas are becoming important for guaranteeing the stability of the largest economies.

/ Miller, Alexei I.
Alexei I. Miller
Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract
This paper looks at Vladimir Putin’s public statements and articles devoted specially to historical issues which were published in 2019 through 2021 (with reference to the first such article published in 2009). The Russian President’s statements and extended texts on history are scrutinized in this paper as political messages having a certain target audience and political goals. The analysis has revealed a rapid evolution of Putin’s approach to relations with the West in 2019-2021, from attempts to reanimate the dialogue to a sharp confrontation.

view from the policy community: a new strategic narrative for Europe?
/ Leigh, Michael
Leigh, Michael
Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract
Reflecting on the results presented in articles in this special issue, European leaders should take greater account of external perceptions in crafting the European Union's strategic narrative and guiding its actions. Failure to do so has impaired external policies like the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, the European Neighbourhood Policy and Eastern Partnership. Leaders emerging from the Arab uprisings perceived the EU as complicit with their countries’ former anciens régimes and Russian leaders see EU support for democracy and the market economy in former Soviet states as duplicitous and instrusive. Awareness of such perceptions should be filtered into EU decision-making, without validating views that European officials and diplomats consider misleading.
