India-Pakistan relation—an endless odyssey of turbulence / Sen, Rupa   Article
Sen, Rupa Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract The India–Pakistan relation caught in the quagmire of hopes and despair, following the disillusionment of jinxed legacy of partition and its results, now need to unwind and move ahead the bumpy road, strategically and pragmatically. The turmoil between the two neighboring nations, for over six decades, has drifted them apart to the point of animosity, generating ego clash more than political and economic ones. The anti-Indian animus is inherently ingrained in the psyche, with military calling all shots in Pakistan. The fissures in the bilateral relation may be mended diplomatically and strategically ensuring palpable peace in the region. Prescriptions may be drawn to resolve the bilateral relations but unless orges in the domestic domain of the nations are mitigated, countries are stable internally, external solutions to any issue would not ensure lasting effect. Military forces may counter external aggression but Socio economic, political stability is always a pre condition for peace to prevail.

Iran-Israel sociopolitical conflict: turmoil beyond uncertainty / Sahoo, Rasmita   Article
Sahoo, Rasmita Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract Iran-Israel relations have lifted from close ties between Iran and Israel during the phase of the Pahlavi dynasty to hostility since the Revolution and ending of Gulf war. The most contentious issue of the Iranian-Israeli conflict is Iran’s nuclear project. The Israeli fear of an Iranian version of a “final solution” might push Israel to launch a preemptive strike against Iran. However, just one blow might not be enough, considering the various measures Iran implemented in order to protect her nuclear setup. Israel should therefore be ready for a long struggle, in which the rear of both sides would be hit. Israel could be part of a vast anti-Iranian coalition, including Arab states that are also on alert, fearing Iran’s ambitions, particularly after losing Iraq as their shield.

0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract North Korea hosted its seventh Congress of the Worker’s Party of Korea on 6 May 2016, the first in nearly 36 years. It came to a close on 9 May. Once the announcement was made about this, speculations were abound engaging analysts to unravel if the event could be related to a generational reassignment of key personnel and announcement of new pro-market policies or a public reinforcement of nuclear weapons strategy. What made the Korea-watchers ponder was because of Pyongyang’s some recent conducts such as latest and fourth nuclear test in January 2016 followed by satellite launch, “’70-day battle” (a short-term economic campaign to maximize industrial and construction output with limited time and resources), and multiple conventional weapons and ballistic missile tests.

Sino-India border dispute: a requiem for enduring peace and tranquility / Chakraborty, Mohor   Article
Chakraborty, Mohor Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract The protracted unresolved border dispute between India and China has transformed the subcontinent into a locus of sustained geopolitical rivalry. The total disputed area between the two countries runs to approximately 1,35,000 sq. km. and in the absence of a well-demarcated border, a Line of Actual Control is employed by both sides to claim the area up to which each side has effective military control. Except the limited but intense war in 1962 and the direct military confrontation in 1986-87, major escalated conflicts along the border have been prevented by adept diplomatic measures and understanding between the two sides. The trajectory of conflict resolution and peace management along the Sino-India border forms a significant foreign policy discourse and the manner in which a mutually acceptable permanent solution to the dispute is reached would be of great interest and concern not only for the region, but also the international community at large.

Bajpai, Arunoday Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract The South China Sea seems to be heading towards a new flash point of conflict between China and the US and her regional allies. The fundamental reasons for the recent tensions are rising and assertive China with her persistent power projection, countermoves of the US under 'Asia Rebalancing' with the help of her regional allies' and lack of consensus on a new regional security architecture among regional players, China and the US. The US continues to be the resident power in this region since the World War II. The rise of China has unsettled the prevailing security regime in the Asia-Pacific region.

Summary/Abstract The turmoil of terrorism has been the cardinal concern of world for so long. This got intensified after 9/11 as situation in Afghanistan and neighboring Central Asia had serious security related implications for the region and countries beyond. Now when major exit of US led NATO has happened and Afghan security forces are proving inadequate to the task, such concerns are being revisited. A new dimension has been added in view of IS entering Afghanistan, thus further vitiating the situation of security. However, contrary to this kind of popular view it has been argued here that the move to give responsibility of security to the local forces is a move in the right direction as ultimately this has to be task of the state of Afghanistan. Training and equipping of the Afghan security is the only course as larger political issues beyond immediate security concerns are to be settled by domestic forces.

Summary/Abstract In a word, Syria has become an arena for regional as well as outside actors; more significantly, these actors have the responsibility to find out peaceful resolution of the Syrian conflict, but these actors are playing bloody politics for geo-political interests and they have made Syrian conflict very complicated and there are less possibilities to resolve this problem, because mediators have also become the part of the problem and not part of the solution, indeed, they are also fighting a proxy war in Syria, and therefore, all the actors have high stakes in the regional politics of West Asia.
