| Summary/Abstract |
The development and introduction of new technologies are central to achieving sustainable transitions. Policymakers are important in enabling a successful transition. However, discourses about EU transport decarbonisation reveal multiple policy approaches to technology innovation, both in terms of decarbonising the car and building new alternative fuels infrastructure for transport. A discursive institutionalist analysis of these two separate but interdependent communicative discourses on road transport decarbonisation shows the complexities of facilitating transformative change. This shift requires coordination at all levels involving different actors and sector coupling to successfully decarbonise road transport.

| Summary/Abstract |
Public energy advising is a policy measure used to provide customized energy information and advice to energy end-users. It aims at encouraging and promoting decisions leading to reduced environmental impact from energy use. While the independent function of public energy advising is unique and important, in Sweden, the role of energy advisors is changing. With new and more complex client demands as well as increasing competition from other forms of advising, there is a need to examine the shift that public energy advising is facing. The aim is to provide an overview of the activities performed by public energy advisors in Sweden and to explore the roles that they play in the transition to a sustainable energy system. Based on a qualitative analysis of 129 activity reports from Swedish municipal energy advisors, this paper shows that public energy advisors do not only play a role on an actor-level, but also on a system-level, by undertaking activities connecting the target groups to other actors in society and translating national policy to the local level. These system-level roles represent an important potential for policies aimed at accelerating the energy transition, and thus they should be encouraged and maximized.

| Summary/Abstract |
Despite its extreme fragility, the ceasefire in place in Syria since February 2016 has afforded the opportunity to assess the options for a set of interim governance and transitional justice arrangements. These could establish the foundations for a transition following the conclusion of the Syrian civil war, regardless of its endpoint. Drawing on the specifics of the Syrian case and wider studies of interventions in, and transitions from, civil war, Scott Lucas, Christalla Yakinthou and Stefan Wolff consider the challenges of peace- and state-building, identifying both risks and mitigating actions. The article argues that risk mitigation is possible and should begin now. These efforts need to be supported by the international community in order to lay the foundations for a credible and sustainable post-civil war transition in Syria.
