Summary/Abstract Ever since Alexander invaded India in 3rd century BC, the Indian rulers have been preoccupied with strategic dynamics of their North-West region. Many subsequent invasions and mingling of races, religions and people was followed by a more coherent and systematic ascendance of Moguls in India. Though British came to India from sea routes, the North-West continued to remain a persistent irritant for various reasons.
