The author deals with various aspects of the debt problem in China's economy. He analyzes assessments of the aggregate debt from the point of view of its structural components and absolute and relative indices. The article also examines possible scenarios of Chinese economic development with due account of the factor of the growing debt pressure. Special attention is given to the problem of local governments' debt and ways to solve it.
