How to live together with the clashing narratives over the holy places / Reiter, Yitzhak   Journal Article
Reiter, Yitzhak Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract In this article I argue that despite the clashing narratives regarding the Temple Mount/Al-Haram al-Sharif in Jerusalem, there is a way for Israeli Jews and Palestinian Muslims to relate to this sacred site peacefully. I will begin by describing the significance of this holy site for Jews and for Muslims, then address the current denial and belittling of the narrative of the other, and will conclude with recommended measures for how to live together at this holy place.

Jerusalem anomaly / Hasson, Nir   Journal Article
Hasson, Nir Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract Anyone traveling from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and reading the signs along the way will notice a very interesting phenomenon. From Tel Aviv until Sha’ar HaGai, at the entrance to the Jerusalem hills, these signs include the Arabic name of the city, the signs say Urshalim (Al-Quds), and Al-Quds is placed in parentheses. But after Sha’ar HaGai, along the new road which has been paved in the last few years, the name of the city changes to Urshalim only. Whoever travels on other roads to the city can still find old signs which will say Urshalim-Al Quds without any parentheses.

Jerusalem for all times / Khoury, Hind   Journal Article
Khoury, Hind Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract The prospect for a peaceful future for Jerusalem lies in our understanding its history and its message, which continue to be highly contested, debated and deformed. It lies in our restoring the values of the Abrahamic faiths, rather than allowing one religion to claim exclusive rights. It lies in the capacity of our own humanity to defend its achievements, namely international governance as the means to resolve conflicts, and in our successfully separating issues of state from issues of religion, including and most importantly in Jerusalem.

Jerusalem–alternatives to discrimination and confrontation / Zayyad, Ziad Abu   Journal Article
Zayyad, Ziad Abu Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract Jerusalem is a most striking example of the current deterioration in the relations between Israel, the Palestinians and the Arab/Islamic world. The recent escalation of Israeli activities aimed at converting Jerusalem into a totally Jewish city has had no precedent since the occupation of East Jerusalem began in 1967. These activities will not change the reality that Jerusalem, which the Jews claim only for themselves, is at the heart of the Christian and Muslim faiths.

Palestinian christians are integral in the Palestinian national movement / Hassassian, Manuel   Journal Article
Hassassian, Manuel Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract The issue of the Christian communities’ plight in the Middle East became a highly significant issue in recent years, with the unfolding of the Arab Spring and with the ethnic cleansing process launched by ISIS. It became a focal point in the West, and attempts to raise awareness about this issue were overwhelming on social media. The conflict was portrayed as Muslim versus Christian, and, of course, this kind of stereotyping should utterly be rejected, because Christians in the Middle East have lived for centuries as part of the indigenous population with Muslims, thriving and developing together.

President Trump's decision on Jerusalem lacks international legitimacy and strategic vision / Zayyad, Ziad Abu   Journal Article
Zayyad, Ziad Abu Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract At the last moment when this issue was ready to go to the printer, U.S. President Donald Trump came out with his statement officially recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel and instructing the U.S. State Department to move the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The statement will have a far-reaching impact on efforts to achieve a political settlement between the Israelis and the Palestinians, and therefore requires a clear, immediate response before it’s too late. President Trump’s decision lacks any international legitimacy or legal justification.
