Summary/Abstract United States emergence in the aftermath of World War II created a regional stability in Southeast Asia by being the security guarantor of the region and establishing a rule-based order. Creation of ASEAN as a regional forum leaped the way forward for institution-based order. However, the 21st century has posed new challenges and opportunities.
