Summary/Abstract This paper examines the historiography of the notion propaganda, and compares the views of domestic, Western, and Arab researchers on the essence of propaganda, highlighting its basic features. The object of the authors' interest is the term information warfare, which describes the contemporary information reality more accurately. The authors conclude that the notions of information impact on mass consciousness by information warfare and antistate propaganda are identical.
