Arab-Muslim Slave Trade: Lifting the Taboo / Gakunzi, David   Journal Article
Gakunzi, David Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract A significant number of studies have been devoted to the transatlantic slave trade. But paradoxically, the issue of the Eastern and trans-Saharan slave trade organized by the Arabs remains unknown; it even seems deliberately ignored and considered a taboo subject.

Freedom Denied: A Firsthand Look at Kurdistan’s Referendum Debacle, One Year On / Huff, Zach   Journal Article
Huff, Zach Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract The Kurds hold a crucial role in the War on Terror, the Syrian Civil War, Iraq’s future, ongoing dissent in Iran, and Iran’s aspirations to establish a continuous range of influence spanning Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon. Numbering some 35 million spread across Iraq, Turkey, Syria, and Iran, the Kurds comprise the largest nation without a state. On September 25, 2017, the semiautonomous Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRG) held a highly contentious independence referendum, the fallout of which defines their future one year later. This is an analysis of those events from several vantage points on the ground, of the actors and decision-makers involved, and of what their future may hold.

New Anti-Semitism? / Wieviorka, Michel   Journal Article
Wieviorka, Michel Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract Contrary to accepted thinking, the survivors of the destruction of European Jewry wanted to express themselves at the end of World War II. However, they were not given much space within public debate. As established by my sister Annette Wieviorka, it was not because their experience was so inexpressible. It was because society did not want to listen.1

No Arab Demographic Time Bomb / Ettinger, Yoram   Journal Article
Ettinger, Yoram Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract Contrary to conventional wisdom, the Jewish state is not facing an Arab demographic time bomb. It benefits, however, from a robust Jewish demographic tailwind of births and net immigration. For example, from 1995 to 2017 the number of Israeli Jewish births surged by 74 percent, from 80,400 to 140,000, while the number of Israeli Arab births grew by 19 percent, from 36,000 to 43,000. Moreover, contrary to conventional wisdom, the trend of Israeli emigration has slowed down. The number of Israelis staying abroad for over a year increased by 6,300 in 2016 (the lowest increase in 10 years – a derivative of the growth of Israel’s economy), compared to 8,200 in 2015 and 14,200 additional emigrants in 1990. At the same time, Israel’s population surged from 4.8 million in 1990 to 8.8 million in 2018.

Verses and Reality: What the Koran Really Says about Jews / Shrenzel, Israel   Journal Article
Shrenzel, Israel Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract The question of the Koran’s attitude toward Jews is not merely a theoretical-academic matter. Because of the centrality of the Koran in the life of the Muslim and of Muslim communities past and present, this question has had, and still has in our day, a fundamental influence on the formation of attitudes toward Jews. True, this is not the only factor and more everyday ones also come into play. But the topic remains an important one to study and become familiar with.
