Summary/Abstract Due to global climate change more and countries are focusing on geopolitical and economic aspects of the Arctic. China and Russia are expanding cooperation in the Arctic, taking into account the interests of the polar states. This is based on partial coincidence of interests (research, resources, and transportation routes) and a relatively stable geopolitical environment. Cooperation in the Arctic will contribute to raising the level of comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Russia and will give it new substance.

Summary/Abstract The article examines the dynamic branch and territorial structures of foreign investments in the PRC and shows the main lines of investment flows from abroad. The analysis given demonstrates that the branch structure of foreign investments constantly changes due to the investment policy of the PRC leadership. Throughout the entire period of reforms foreign investments have been channeled either to the cities with provincial status - Shanghai and Beijing, or the most developed seashore regions (Guangdong, Jiangsu), which remained unchanged during the period of their realization.

Summary/Abstract This article analyzes Japan's policy in the basin of the Pacific and Indian Oceans. The term "Indo-Pacific Region" is more often used in scientific circles and mass media now instead of Asia-Pacific Region, which reflects the radical economic and political shifts in the basin of the two oceans. The Indo-Pacific strategy of Premier of Japan Shinzo Abe has an aim to contain the growing economic and military might of China - the main geopolitical rival of Japan in Asia. However, the implementation of this strategy faces difficulties.

Summary/Abstract This article analyzes extraordinary elections to Japan's House of Representatives held on October 22, 2017. The author notes that the voters showed little interest in the elections, but the sense of a foreign threat associated with the actions of North Korea, along with the lack of a real alternative to the Liberal Democratic party, and the chaos in the ranks of the opposition, allowed the parties of the rightist coalition to win a resounding victory and keep their qualified majority in the lower house of parliament.

Summary/Abstract This article examines reasons for the critical aggravation of the situation on the Korean Peninsula in 2017. The author comes to the conclusion that the United States, under the pretext of fighting proliferation of nuclear weapons, is trying to implement its own geopolitical plans in the APR, which in essence aim to maintain US military superiority in the region and deter Russia and China. Factors facilitating resumption of inter-Korean dialogue and its prospects, as well as outcomes of the summit of the DPRK leader and the US president, are considered.

Summary/Abstract On November 1, 2017, the Round Table titled Forum APEC 2017 in Vietnam: Possibilities of Regional Development was held at RAS IFES in Moscow. It was organized by the Center for Vietnam and ASEAN Studies on the eve of the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting in Danang (November 10-11, 2017) and drew attention of academic circles, Russia's government agencies, Vietnam's Embassy to the Russian Federation (RF), and Russian and foreign mass media.
