Summary/Abstract The two great national leaders of colonial India, Gandhi and Nehru, while dealing with the bigger issues of dependent India, did not fail to appreciate the smaller issues like the problem of the tribal people of the country. Both of them could not visit the tribal areas of north-east India due to the British policy of isolating the tribal people with their inner line regulation and other restrictions imposed by the administration.
