Abkhazia: a zone of alienation or a zone of growth? / Frolov, A   Journal Article
Frolov, A Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract THE COLLAPSE of the socialist world late in the 20th century and the redivision of its territory resulted in the emergence of new independent states, some of which are generally recognized while others are labeled self-proclaimed. But no matter how a new state finds its way onto the map, there will have been deep historical and cultural reasons for its coming into being. One of the new states is Abkhazia.

Born for confrontation: on the results of the NATO Warsaw Summit / Orlov, A   Journal Article
Orlov, A Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract IN RECENT YEARS, we have been watching a grandiose performance in the theater of the absurd, directed by the United States and its closest allies, that can be called Aggressive Russia Threatens the Peaceful and Respectable West. On July 8-9, 2016, the international public could watch another act of the farce, this time played in Warsaw at the NATO summit. Those present at the Polish gathering of the Atlanticists did not strain their intellectual abilities - they merely accused Russia of all conceivable and inconceivable sins and the gloomy state of international relations navigating probably the most hazardous period of its history since the Caribbean Crisis of 1962. While that crisis was more or less promptly resolved through a compromise achieved between the Soviet Union and the United States, today there is no light at the end of the tunnel of confrontation and it will hardly appear any time soon.

Brexit: voting with the heart / Ananieva, E   Journal Article
Ananieva, E Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract A "POLITICAL TSUNAMI," an "existential crisis" and "the not so United Kingdom" are several of the many assessments the British media used to comment on the results of the June 23, 2016 EU referendum. The nation was invited to give a simple and unequivocal answer to a far from simple and far from unequivocal question very much like the one addressed to Greek philosopher Menedemus in the 3rd century B.C. whether "he had left off beating his father."

Brics as the common denominator of strategic priorities / Alexeyenko, O; Leonova, O; Ilyin, I   Journal Article
Alexeyenko, O Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract GLOBALIZATION and regionalization have set a trend for new associations of states such as regional and interregional organizations and dialogue forums to emerge to take over decision-making on some international issues. New regional organizations and dialogue forums are set up with the participation of emergent political players, actors that are vehicles of an innovative format of international cooperation. BRICS, which brings together five key regional powers representing four continents and four major civilizations, is a splendid example of such an association.

Collective intelligence: Russian diplomats' comments on president Putin's speech / Denisov, Audrey   Journal Article
Denisov, Audrey Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract AS RUSSIA'S AMBASSADOR to China, I found it particularly interesting to hear evaluations that in some way or other concern the relations between our two countries, as well as the remarks on Russian-Chinese tandem as a structurally critical factor not only on a regional but perhaps also on a global level. It is encouraging that the level of interaction along all lines and on all levels has been highly appraised. My colleagues even said with a touch of professional envy that there must be a lot of work in my area compared to others, where for well-known reasons development has somewhat stalled, at least in multilateral ties.

Cultural and social integration of migrants in the European Union / Gavrilova, S; Zakaurtseva, T   Journal Article
Gavrilova, S Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract IN 2014-2016, a migration crisis loomed large in the discussions held by the European Commission (EC) and the governments of the EU member states. Migration and its consequences sparked a massive public outcry in Europe. According to the polls carried out by the Standard Eurobarometer back in 2013, the Europeans started to give higher priority to migration problems than to issues such as taxes, pensions, education, and even terrorism, and in 2015, the problem was already second on the list of their priority concerns after unemployment. The Eurobarometer records for 2015 underline that resolving problems related to the growth of migration became a priority task for both various European institutions and national governments.1 In conditions of a complicated social and economic situation, authorities of the EU member states encounter problems when trying to explain to their populations a need to provide employment to migrants and integrate them in the economy.2 A growing public discontent with the mass influx of illegal migrants gave rise to an increased growth of nationalist and anti-EU sentiments in many EU countries. Characteristically, political parties speculating on the Islamic factor have bolstered their influence, while a "radicalization of public opinion which has been continuously growing in the past few years contradicts the fundamental goals of the European integration."

Morals in the foreign policy and diplomacy of contemporary France / Litvak, N   Journal Article
Litvak, N Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract MORALS ARE A SET OF RULES of social behavior based on opinions that declare some values true and others false and determines the relationships between people. Morals are not values. The common treatment of morals as rules endowed with the values of kindness, humanity and fairness is wrong. This refers to morals in general while there are types of morals that treat different values as true. In any case we should clearly understand how different people or societies interpret or define the same values of kindness or fairness.

Partnership for peace or preparations for war: evolution of Russia-NATO relations / Belobrov, Yu   Journal Article
Belobrov, Yu Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract THE JULY 2016 WARSAW NATO Summit not only decided to strengthen its military and political confrontation with Russia but also strongly invigorated the realization of its strategy designed to transform the North Atlantic Alliance from a purely regional defensive pact into a global military-political structure of "cooperative security" accommodating the geopolitical interests of the United States and the leading Western countries and seen as a substitute of the "inefficient" United Nations. One of the key elements of this newly formulated strategy is creating a global coalition of the NATO partners with the biggest possible number of states and international organizations from all corners of the world. The NATO strategists expect that this will bring them closer to their abovementioned aim.

Perestroika in Myanmar: reasons, challenges and prospects / Ivashentsov, G   Journal Article
Ivashentsov, G Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract Myanmar is an important country in both regional and international terms, being the biggest continental state in Southeast Asia (678,000 sq. km as compared to, say, 547,000 of France) with a population of 60 million, which has a rather high literacy rate (over 90%). The country is rich in natural resources,1 and it is located at the intersection of geopolitical routes connecting South Asia and Eastern Asia. In the first years of its independence, Burma/Myanmar played an active role in international affairs. It is a Buddhist country, and its foreign policy was based on some Buddhist principles which stipulated that the country should only rely on its own potential, steer a middle course, and avoid the extremes. Myanmar was pursuing the policy of equidistance from all world blocs, promoting the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence (the Pancha Shila), which has served to enhance its global stature. It is no coincidence that in 1961, U Thant, a representative of Burma, became the United Nations' third Secretary-General.

Russia-U.S. relations after the election: "we will be ready for a new start" / Ryabkov, S   Journal Article

0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract Armen Oganesyan, Editor-in-Chief of International Affairs: Sergey Alekseyevich, despite the hot summer months, there is no holiday season in international life. Even though some people still maintain that we are in isolation, Russia is present in virtually all main global political developments. This applies even to the U.S. election campaign. I mean, of course, the recent statement by the U.S. president that the hacking attack on the online resource of the Democratic Party may have been organized by Russian special services.

Ukrainian crisis in the mirror of polish conservatism / Smirnov, A   Journal Article
Smirnov, A Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract MANY EUROPEAN STATES recognized the Ukrainian crisis as a serious reason to revise their political opinions and change the balance of power. For historical reasons and due to the sharpening struggle between the main political forces inside the state, Poland is involved in the process to a much greater extent than its East European neighbors. To the last moment, the right-wing conservatives remained in determined opposition to the policies of the liberal forces that for a long time controlled the Polish political Olympus practically unhampered. The victory of the conservative Law and Justice Party (PiS) at the 2015 presidential elections added urgency to the problem of the Polish-Ukrainian political interaction.
