Summary/Abstract As an interrelated set of ideas constituting any set of beliefs, Ideologies hold significance and tremendous sway in mass societies for garnering public support for a programme of action, social agenda and mobilisation of masses in defence of a social order. An ideology is thus an action-oriented system of thought. Martin Seliger defines Ideology as ‘a set of ideas by which men explain and justify the ends and means of organised social action’ in relation to a given social order.
