Summary/Abstract |
The phenomenon of cognitive dissonance among regional and extraregional players in Arctic issues is considered, along with the reasons for it, its consequences, and measures that allow it to be reduced. The main reason for such disagreements is national identity, the categorization of which creates differences between "ours" and "theirs." It is easier for countries with similar identities to see reality the same way and develop cooperation.

Summary/Abstract |
This article analyzes China's position on reaching a settlement on the crisis in Afghanistan. The dynamic of Beijing's approach is described with allowance for inter-Afghan and regional challenges: strengthening the armed opposition in Afghanistan, its influence on the Muslim Uighurs of Xinjiang, and strengthening the strategic partnership between the United States and India in the region. The year 2015, when Beijing and Islamabad signed an agreement to create a China-Pakistan economic corridor (CPEC), was a landmark for the region.

Summary/Abstract |
This article considers various aspects of Russia's drive to the East at the end of the 19th century and the start of the 20th, including economic and political components of this process. The author explains reasons for the growing clash of interests between Russia and the United States in the Far East, down to the first systemic crisis in bilateral relations under the influence of Russian expansion in northern China and the Russo-Japanese War. The main positions of American public thought of that time with regard to Russia's Eastern policy are analyzed leading to the conclusion that the Eastern Factor helped shape the negative image of Russia in the eyes of Americans.
