This article deals with the activities of the well-known Soviet diplomat I. Maisky starting in 1927, as the charge d'affaires and then the advisor to the Soviet mission in Japan. The article is based mainly on the correspondence of the diplomat, who analyzed the state of Soviet-Japanese relations in the second half of the 1920s and described Japanese foreign policy, especially in China.
