Summary/Abstract |
RUSSIA established official relations with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in March 1999 by appointing its then ambassador to Botswana, Valery Kalugin, as its official representative to SADC. This regional organization dates its history to 1980, when nine countries established what is known as the Southern African Development Coordination Conference (SADCC) and is the forerunner of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). A declaration issued by the SADCC founding member countries and newly independent Namibia and a treaty signed by them established SADC in August 1992.

Summary/Abstract |
THE FIRST Russia-Africa summit, which took place on October 23 and 24, 2019 in Sochi, was one of the most important foreign policy events of the outgoing year (the present authors had the privilege to attend this important international forum). Russia hosted a successful top-level meeting and established dialogue with an entire continent. The summit was attended by delegations from all 54 African states. Moscow took advantage of the occasion to deliver its message: "Russia is returning to Africa." And it is returning as a good old friend, as well as a reliable and time-tested partner.

Summary/Abstract |
International Affairs: The world has entered a period of confrontation between global development concepts, with the positions of Russia, China, and the non-Western powers in general opposing the policy of Western dominance. Was this inevitable due to the differences in civilizations, approaches to the use of force and international law, and the understanding of the role of international institutions? In the context of current challenges, in your view, what is Russia's role and mission?
