Summary/Abstract |
We are facing an extraordinary situation that our generation has not experienced so far. COVID-19 completely changed the thought process. Initially we were under the impression that this Corona would not affect us badly like China. But the visuals we have seen in electronic media about the happenings in Europe especially in countries like Spain and Italy terribly affected us. Needless to say, only then we began to realize its potency. There was a bit of a snag in our planning and preparation at the beginning.

Summary/Abstract |
The essence of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the Father of our Nation, who led India’s freedom struggle from the front, is still effervescent in every nook and cranny of this country and the world even 150 years after his birth. As evident from the words quoted above, India is at the forefront of the peace movement across the world and is gradually building its name as a global leader following the footsteps of the father of our nation. Gandhi’s principles of Swaraj, swabalambi or self-sufficiency, basic education, sarvodaya or universal upliftment, ahimsa or non-violence, cleanliness or Swacchta- all form the bedrocks of modern India and countries across the globe.

Summary/Abstract |
‘Civil Society’ today is a sector within itself. Some academicians prefer to call it the ‘Third Sector’ of the state alongside Government (First sector) and the Commerce (Second Sector). It’s presence and role has grown so big that it is next to impossible to quantify the hugeness of the sector.

Summary/Abstract |
The current power politics and paranoid instincts for hegemony are distablizing factors for the global peace, security and prosperity. In this context we can find Gandhian visions as practice- worthy. Gandhi had showed his entrenched faith in the notion of decentralisation of power as he believed concentration of power an evil which corrupts the motives of welfare state.

Summary/Abstract |
Gandhi’s concept has been studied in terms of his philosophical ideas about freedom, ahimsa, and Nation. But a view of sexuality and its relevance in the present time is also required to understand more about him. Moreover, Gandhi’s philosophy does not deny any presence of gap and inner contradictions.

Summary/Abstract |
Gandhi is a global icon. This is not because he liberated India from the British rule. This is because he articulated, experimented and applied some fundamental ideas, which have universal appeal to human society, cutting across time and space. The humanity is faced with grave challenges of mindless violence, growing social disorder, terrorism, selfish individualism, consumerism, intolerance, and environmental degradation.

Summary/Abstract |
Mahatma Gandhi is the iconic persona with endless epithets; torch bearer of Satyagraha (nonviolence), a nationalist, anti-imperial hero, whose ideas have inspired movements against oppression throughout the world, from Aung San SuuKyi’s pro-democracy movements in Burma to Martin Luther King Jr.’s Civil rights movement in the United States.

Summary/Abstract |
Mahatma Gandhi was largely an omnibus thinker and practitioner in life of what he preached to others. He said, “My Life is a Message”, and he truly proved it to be so. If Socrates was personification of Wisdom, it would not be an exaggeration to say Gandhi was personification of Morality or Ethics. Yet Gandhi has been criticised vehemently by the posterity as much as he has been praised.

Summary/Abstract |
In the age of science and technology it is not correct to say that one particular community is responsible for spreading a particular disease. In fact it is a matter of hygiene, sanitation and common sense. It is a bias and a kind of myth towards a particular community. In this background the role of media was not up to the mark. This gave birth to hate, violence and the atmosphere of mutual distrust among the various communities living peacefully.

Summary/Abstract |
Mohandas Karamchanda Gandhi was born ordinary as every human being is not with a silver spoon in his mouth. When we say we are ordinary we mean the general go of the worldly life- education, service, marriage, earning of and running after money and material wealth. We fall into the excruciating chain of birth, growth, decay and death.

Summary/Abstract |
“Gandhi enjoyed a long life and is enjoying a vigorous after-life”. Mahatma Gandhi’s message was not just for India. Nor was it just for the times he lived in. Mahatma Gandhi’s message of love and peace, of non-violence and Satyagraha, of equality of all peoples, of harmony between all religions, is a universal message.

Summary/Abstract |
In analysing COVID period snapshots of experience from across the world on society, media and politics are constantly hitting our mind and heart and forcing us to think beyond the given narratives in a multidisciplinary framework. In probing deep into such meta-experiences the single country case studies with unique features are the most sought after explanatory tools in the present time. Covid pandemic has brought to our sense a basic lesson which is to remain ready nationally to tackle single-handedly any problem.

Summary/Abstract |
There are numerous interpretations of Gandhi’s thoughts in association with environmental sustainability. However, there is a need for a clearer conception of his ideas such as non-violence and Sarvodaya in order to further elucidate its relevance in the present-day sustainability discourse. Gandhi’s ideas on development suggested a bottom-up approach to comprehend the realities of rural development. For him, development planning implied focussing on the poorest of the poor i.e., the concept of Antyodaya.

Summary/Abstract |
The two great national leaders of colonial India, Gandhi and Nehru, while dealing with the bigger issues of dependent India, did not fail to appreciate the smaller issues like the problem of the tribal people of the country. Both of them could not visit the tribal areas of north-east India due to the British policy of isolating the tribal people with their inner line regulation and other restrictions imposed by the administration.

Summary/Abstract |
During the last three decades or so it has been widely recognised that the world has been undergoing colossal transformation from ‘international system’ to ‘world society’ and from the bi-polar world order to a globalised and interdependent unit. It has been resolutely articulated by many liberal scholars that the liberal ideology and capitalist modes of production has ended ‘the history (Fukuyama 1992/2012)’ of other ideologies and the humanity has discovered the panacea for all the ills and miseries that hitherto the globe had been grappling with.
