Summary/Abstract |
This article deals with the actions of the Soviet government in connection with the Japanese invasion of Manchuria, which was detrimental to the economic and geopolitical interests of the U.S.S.R. in the Far East. These actions were of a "defensive" nature, which was caused by the military weakness of the U.S.S.R. in this region and the desire to maintain stable relations with Japan. Specifically, this was expressed in numerous concessions to Japan, which culminated in the sale of the Chinese Eastern Railroad (CER) for next to nothing and the withdrawal of the U.S.S.R. from Manchuria.
