On November 28-November 29, 2019, the RAS Institute for Far Eastern Studies (RAS IFES) hosted the 7th Theoretical Conference of Young Orientalists on the subject of "East Asia: The Past, the Present, and the Future." The annual event was organized by the RAS IFES Council of Young Scholars. The Conference participants were addressed by professor S.G. Luzyanin, RAS IFES Director, D.Sc. (History), who pointed out in his welcoming speech that the globalization model was undergoing a change, and various regional players in East Asia had their own regional versions and projects. The study of the latter against the background of the mounting US-Chinese confrontation makes the subject of the reports at the Conference particularly topical. Also, the Conference participants were addressed by G.V. Kulikova, First Deputy Chairperson of the Russian-Chinese Friendship Society, who had been recently awarded the Order of Friendship, the PRC premier state award conferred on foreign nationals.
