Battle for 6G has already started / Sanmarti, Marcal   Journal Article
Sanmarti, Marcal Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract A remarkable technology, 5G allows us not just to surf the internet faster, but also makes possible the internet of things or IoT - a network of physical objects that are embedded with sensors, software and other technologies for the purpose of connecting and exchanging data with other devices and systems over the internet. But the 5G technology will be remembered also for starting a global race to own new communication technologies, a contest that China is winning. Geopolitical rifts have led to some countries stripping Chinese-made equipment from their 5G networks. And the next battle, for 6G supremacy, has already begun.

Georgia: self-determination of whom? / Kemoklidze, Nino   Journal Article
Kemoklidze, Nino Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract Georgia suffered significant violence during and following the demise of the Soviet Union at the end of 1991. It left Abkhazia and South Ossetia outside the control of the republic, and in 2008, following the Russia-Georgia War, Russia recognised them as independent states, a status acknowledged only by a handful of other states. The Kremlin proclaimed the right of self-determination and secession, but the situation is not straightforward because Georgia has traditionally been multi-ethnic. People have lived side-by side relatively peacefully in Abkhazia and South Ossetia for centuries. The de facto secession poses many dangers of ethnic strife for the future.

Honey pot - or not? / Sexton, Patricia   Journal Article
Sexton, Patricia Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract The link between trans-national crime and crypto-currencies reveals vulnerabilities in the regional security architecture of the South Pacific. While cryptos are considered a threat by the government, they also offer opportunity. To maximise this opportunity, and to mitigate the threat, the governments should regulate, working alongside our Pacific partners to utilise this unique asset class, as well as the technology on which it is built, to combat the facilitation of trans-national crime and money laundering. Given that it is a disruptive technology with rapidly growing market capitalisation, getting ahead of the curve will reap reward for both the government and law enforcement bodies regionally.

Brown, Mark Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)

It has developed, off the coat-tails of Covid, its first Economic Development Strategy - a ten-year plan consolidating its shared vision and approach towards a more sustainable future. Its five key objectives are improving equity and access for all, transforming the economy, developing the people and culture, investing in the outer islands and greening the economy.

Navigating global challenges / Clark, Laura   Journal Article
Clark, Laura Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract The elements in which New Zealand and the United Kingdom find themselves include the prevailing winds, the storms coming at them across the horizon and the threats to their security and way of life. Safely navigating these seas demands the careful determination of priorities over the next ten years, and of how they mean to act on the world stage. Important questions arise as to what that means in terms of tools and capability; relationships; and ability to work together. The United Kingdom is committed to working together with New Zealand, both bilaterally and multilaterally, to tackle global challenges and promote global goods.

Samoa's 2021 election: the perfect storm for a crisis / Iati, Iati   Journal Article
Iati, Iati Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract Samoa's 2021 election has taken the country into uncharted waters. Three factors have created a perfect storm of events within a political environment marked by pockets of discontentment and heightened distrust of the HRPP government to produce the current outcome: the government's introduction of three controversial Bills into Parliament in early 2020, a vaguely drafted constitutional provision that is designed to increase women's participation in national politics and a knife-edge result of the election. Traditional ties provide the avenues for mediation and reconciliation and these might be utilised to resolve the current constitutional crisis and to overcome future dilemmas.
