Last year at this time I was up in the air over Indonesia on a flight from Brisbane to Singapore. I had come to the region on a research trip for my new project on the history of the global South. Seven countries, ten cities, fifteen archives and forty or so interviews over three and a half months. That feels like such a long time ago. Like most of you, I am guessing, under the pandemic I have barely left my home since March except to go to the grocery store or for a walk in the neighborhood.
