Summary/Abstract US PRESIDENT Abraham Lincoln [purportedly] said: "America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."1 It seems that the Americans have been faltering in recent years, wittingly or unwittingly making fateful mistakes that are having an ever-growing impact on the geopolitical situation of the US and the rest of the world.
