What Makes Social Movements Successful: the Case of Gudiashvili Square / Tabatadze, Sandro; Dundua, Salome; Amashukeli, Tamar   Journal Article

Summary/Abstract The case of civic activism discussed here is one of the very few successful campaigns in Georgia. We argue that the success of the ‘Save Gudiashvili Square’ initiative was largely due to its framing process, recruitment tactics and protest repertoire, coupled with changes in the political system. These factors, alongside the close intergroup ties within the organisation and its openness at the right moment, make the campaign distinctive in the history of modern Georgia.
