Summary/Abstract |
The US presence and influence has created conducive environment for India’s penetration in the IPR. The US forging strategic partnership with India is the testimony of this fact as it has started viewing India as a counterweight to China. It appears that the partnership amongst various stakeholders such as India, US, Australia, and Japan in the IPR has the potential to moderate and deter China’s assertive behaviour there to a large extent. The US is employing dual-strategy viz-a-viz China-to practise the policy of hedging and improving trade and economic relations but at the same time maintaining the military preparedness and tactical posturing to check China’s military assertion in its immediate surroundings.
